300 - 1200 CE

Alternate Spelling: Thorsbjerg / Thorsberg

Thorsberg trousers are an ancient design dating back as early as the 2nd century, with most surviving finds recovered from the 3rd century Thorsberg Moor site. These tight fitted pants identified the wearer as belonging to Germanic or Scandinavian tribes, and were constructed with a fine diamond twill wool. The crotch of a Thorsberg trouser was made with an elaborate gore, allowing for increased freedom of movement. Originally, these pants included socked feet that may have been worn out and replaced with heavy use. Thorsberg trousers were narrow enough require an opening in the calf; this made it easier for the foot to enter the small leg opening. The pants were suspended with either a drawstring or belt loops, and were suitable for an active lifestyle.

Burgschneider recreates these iconic trousers in a variety of materials, sizes, and dyes. Primary differences between the original find and the recreate is the lack of attached socks, and the slit for heel removal. This makes the Thorsberg trousers more versatile as a garment used with a variety of other clothing items. Other differences can be seen in the material used. Burgschneider offers the Thorsberg trouser in both Cotton, and a Wool blend.
