1000 - 1200 CE

The Skjoldehamn hood dates to 11th century Andøy. This hood differs from other clothing of the era in that it was not part of a larger cape. The original hood had a simple construction of three or four squares of wool twill, and was unusual due to the lack of curve along the bottom edge. This hood is suitable for both men and women, and would have been an essential accessory for anyone braving the harsh climate of Norway.

The Burgschneider Skjoldehamn Hood recreation is faithful to the original look with a more modern fabric.
