From 1400 to 1500, fingerless gauntlets like these were an essential piece in a soldier's protective ensemble. Models such as this one are based on those found in Milanese ´Avant' armor set which saw widespread use by both cavalrymen and foot soldiers alike. Artistic renderings suggest that polearms users especially favored wearing them for their unique protective benefits during battle!
