If a trip’s success is measured by the number of friends you make, our trip to Australia’s largest LARP event “Swordcraft Quest” was a flawless victory. Set to the backdrop of Australia’s southern hils, Kryal Castle played home to 600 of the counties most passionate Live Action Role Players. This event was also our first chance to debut our new Knight’s Riding Tunic, based on finds from the 10th - 13th centuries in both France and England. And, no better model could be can be found than Michael Rutter, a local Australian LARPer who won our Summer 2017 “Complete Outfit Giveaway”. Michael’s group is made up of LARPers who take inspiration from this period, and beautifully portrayed it to great effect.
Swordcraft's Quest Event gets First Look
In the (Australian) summer of 2017 Michael entered our giveaway which was designed to give one lucky contestant the chance to pick out an entire outfit made up of Burgschneider. To his delight, the following season we decided to visit Australia to debut our most recent garment, the Gilbert and Arnaud set. Inspired by the Knight’s Riding Tunics and Tabards of the 10th to 13th centuries, this tunic fit perfectly into his Warband, "The Royal Court of Chesterwick" (Community sub-groups organized around thematic visual cohesion) directed look. From the first moment Michael tried on the garments, we knew we had to share his look with the community. Not only did it fit him perfectly, but matched the rest of his aesthetic.
Looking forward to Quest's to Come
The Australian community is a bit of a sleeper in the minds of many in the Reenactment and LARP communities. Separated by long flights and thousands of kilometers of water, the Swordcraft community flourishes through a mix of strong community development and passionate participants. Don't let the Kangaroos and "Drop Bears" fool you, these LARPers from Down Under are just as dedicated and resourceful as any other community around the world, and have set the stage to become a continual inspiration to the international medievalist and fantasy communities world wide.
