Not Simply a Festival.
A Living World.

The Brandywine Festival is a fully immersive multi-day experience set in The Shire. From the moment you arrive, the modern world gently fades — replaced by lantern-lit lanes, woodsmoke, living music, and a community of people who share the same warm Hobbit spirit.

Everyone arrives as a Hobbit of their own creation. You bring your name, your backstory, your corner of The Shire. The world does the rest.

"I came on my own, not knowing a single person. By the end of the first evening I had a Farthing, a group of friends, and a Hobbit name I'll probably keep forever."
— Marcus T., first-timer 2025

Never Done This Before? Perfect.

Most of our guests arrive with zero LARP experience - and leave wondering why they waited so long. You just need a costume.

We run pre-event workshops on Day Zero to introduce you to the world, your character, and the other Hobbits in your Farthing. By the time the gates open, you'll feel like you've lived there for years.

Are there 1-day tickets?

We currently expect to offer Saturday day tickets for the UK festival in September. However, these tickets have not been published yet, and the exact details are still to be confirmed. Please keep an eye on our website and ticket shop, where we will announce further information as soon as it becomes available.

Do I need to buy tickets in advance?

Yes - this is a pre-registered event only. No tickets are sold at the door. Secure your place early: tickets are sold in batches and the price increases with each batch.

What actually is the Brandywine Festival?

An officially licensed Lord of the Rings LARP (live action roleplay) - licensed by Middle-earth Enterprises. Everyone attends as a Hobbit of their own creation. There's no combat - think folk music, feasting, workshops, storytelling, and a friendly weekend-long competition between the four Farthings of The Shire.

Do I need LARP or cosplay experience?

None at all. Most guests are first-timers. We run pre-event workshops on Day Zero (the day before the world opens) covering character intro, dance, and a LARP orientation. By Thursday you'll feel like you've lived in The Shire for years.

Do I have to roleplay the whole time?

Yes - but there are designated out-of-character areas on site where you can take a break whenever you need one.

Do I need a costume?

Yes, costumes are required. Think earthy tones, waistcoats, linen shirts, and leather shoes - no armour or weapons. Download the free Hobbit Costume Guide for ideas at every budget

Is camping included in my ticket?

Yes, camping is included with every ticket at no extra cost. You can bring your own tent (in-game or out-of-game areas available) or rent a shire-appropriate tent when purchasing your ticket.

What's the difference between in-game and out-of-game camping?

In-game camping means your tent fits the Hobbit aesthetic - no modern gear visible. Out-of-game camping allows modern tents and equipment. Both areas have full access to the festival.

Can I bring children?

Yes. Children aged 7–17 require a Junior ticket and must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times. Children aged 6 and under attend free - no ticket needed.

Is food available on site?

Yes - in-game food vendors and taverns are open throughout the festival. You're also welcome to bring your own food and drink. Cooking equipment should fit the fantasy setting or be kept out of sight.
